After getting the job more than 9 years ago from Frans Van Antehoven and Frank De Nijs, this is going to be a year to remember ! 10 years at the helm has taken me and “A Few Good Men” all over Belgium and into Holland, Luxembourg and France.
Back in the good old days we were a dedicated group of about 15 players, and it is thanks to the o’l boys that the Men’s Day has grown out to be such a popular external golfing day. The last couple of years we have had about 65 men participating each year.
One of the secrets has to be attributed to our sponsors. Under the guidance and helpfull eye of Marc De Laet, Frans Van Antehoven and the other sponsors we have wonderfull prizes for each Men’s Day. Thanks again to all the sponsors who are too numerous to mention.
Over the years we have seen all the golf clubs in Belgium bar a few. In Holland we have played more than 12 courses and the number keeps growing each year due to the good conditions we receive by our neighbours.
Our Men’s Day is played on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, although exceptions do occur. 2015 saw 18 players in cat. 1, 24 players in cat. 2 and 23 players in cat 3. As one can see all levels of players are represented. The competition is fierce as the results can show, only a few point seperate the first three players per category. The winner in cat. 1 was Eric Deprey, cat. 2 was Erwin Vandaele and in cat. 3 Alain Bontemps.
Our Men’s OPEN is played alternatively on a week day after work twice a month. The last 2 years the playing formula is ‘eclectic’. All men are invited to play as the competition is over 6 months. More than 10 men had scores less the the course rating. Our overall winner was David Deceuninck with 25 strokes. Thanks to Kelvik Sport for the sponsorship and Jean-Claude.
As Men’s Captain I must thank you all for the support I am given, and in 2016 we shall see our merry band of players grow even further!
